Does it give you any credit to phone up regarding interview outcome?

I had an interview on Monday, was told i would hear on Friday. I didn't hear anything, & i just assumed it was negative but i phoned anyway. I've just been told it is still with the Manager, she wld let me know tomorrow & she apologised for not phoning on Friday. Don't you think she already knows the outcome - negative but she just didnt want to tell me?
