IPod touch 4th gen keypad won't turn?

My friend has an iPod touch and when she first got it she could turn it side ways and everything would turn and the keypad would become bigger but know it won't do it and it's driving her NUTS!!! So could you plz help? thank you. P.s. It isn't jail broken or anything.
